The Department of Archeology
The Department of Archeology was created at the time of the establishing of the Professional State Museum in 1953. At its core, the museum collection comprises specimens of material gathered in the mid 1920s by the learning devoted society “Razvitie” (meaning “Development”.)
The Department includes the following sub-sections: Prehistory, Ancient History, Epigraphics & Numismatics, and The Middle Ages. The department is mainly concerned with gathering scientific information and material evidence on the past of the Vratsa region from the prehistoric epochs to the late Middle Ages.
