The Thracian period (Bronze and Iron Ages)
The archaeological studies of this period primarily comprised excavations of various sepulchral hills. From the sites belonging to the early Bronze Age, Bogdan Nikolov studied Glavchovska Mogila (mogila meaning “hill”) near the village of Tarnava and two different hills in the land of Knezha. The evidence of two different burial rites was found in these hills.- that of cremation, and the laying of corpses in the fetal position.
From the period of the Iron age, the following sites were studied: Mogilanska Mogila in the town of Vratsa were studied by Ivan Venedikov, Bogdan Nikolov, Teofil Ivanov and Spas Mashov. Two sepulchral hills within the region belonging to the village of Dolna Kremena were studied by Bogdan Nikolov. Part of the Thracian Hill Necropolis in the Greznitsa locality near the village of Tarnava; Kosmatata Mogila near the town of Vratsa were studied by Nikolay Teodosiev. Also, different sepulchral hills near the villages of Radovene and Tarnak were studied by N. Torbov.
It was during these excavations that over 100 vessels of Thracian silver treasure were unearthed by Bogdan Nikolov, Spas Mashov and Plamen Ivanov in the village of Rogozen
